Carpe Diem
Carpe Diem is a spectacular example of the many ways creative landscape design transforms unusable ground into functional outdoor living areas. Employing proven construction techniques, this steep, hilly lot is adapted to accommodate a large home and pool as well as a shaded pavilion and the whimsical placement of an outdoor swing to take in the view.
Extruded concrete curbing forms the edge of planting spaces that secure the soil from erosion. Pathways of carefully placed pavers connect the home and the shaded lounge pavillion in the forest. Large trees and leafy ground cover surrounding this majestic home were carefully preserved as the building site was prepared, and they remain home to hundreds of birds, iguanas, monkeys and Costa Rica’s famous tree frogs. Multi-toned slate was chosen for the pool surround, outdoor grilling area and connecting walkways, to further enhance the natural feel of the Carpe Diem estate. Slender palms and native orchids stand guard along the winding pathways, and are even more beautiful at night, their majesty accented by well-placed lighting.
